Barnyard Favorite
Oil on Panel, 16" x 20" SOLD

Jeannette Fromm received an Award of Merit in the California State Fair’s Fine Art Competition 2012, for her oil painting titled Barnyard Favorite. The annual art competition is considered one of California’s oldest and most prestigious juried art shows. California artists over the age of 18 compete for cash awards, trophies and ribbons. This year there were over 1300 entries. Approximately 200 artworks were selected for the exhibition, in a variety of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and photography.  The show was held at the Cal Expo Center in Sacramento, CA. The show and exhibit space were quite impressive.

Before the Music

Before the Music
16" x 24", Oil on Panel, Sold

Creating a likeness is only the first step with my portraiture. My true goal is to accentuate that certain something that reveals the character of the individual. Often it is the eyes that tell us so much about that person. Sometimes it is the gesture of a pose, the lighting and the colors of a scene, the composition, or even the softness/hardness of a particular medium that sets the tone of the portrait. I do enjoy rendering the subtle variations and forms that create an accurate likeness of a person, but I also enjoy listening to my intuition and paying attention to visual cues that I can use in capturing the essence of that individual.
